Questions and Answers

I am posting this page for people to ask questions regarding training.  If you have any questions about the training sessions please post them here for a response.  You can also ask any question that may help in training you may be doing with your dogs.

  1. I have always heard that you have to train a duck dog to have a "soft bite" so it won't damage the meat.
    Questions:
    1) Is there any truth in this?
    2) Is using the wooden dowel part of this "soft bite" training?

  2. Im glad someone finally posted to this. LoL

There is definitely truth in dogs having a hard mouth. It is funny you asked this question because I just got through making a video explaining some of this. You will see in my next video how I use a leather glove and the wooden dowel to continue teaching this. Tuvuk has a pretty soft mouth already, but this drill just ensures that it continues. Some dogs will really bite hard on the birds and damage the meat or play tug-of-war with the birds. These drills just ensure that they will:

1.) Learn how to hold the birds.
2.) Gain confidence in what you are asking of them
3.) Encourage having a soft mouth
4.) Lead up to future drill for force-fetching

  3. Is there a way or a website to see the history of the dogs listed on Tuvuk's Pedigree?

  4. Hey Buddy! It's been a long time!! Bridgett commented on a picture of my new black lab pup, and said you had a blog I should check out! I just started from the beginning of your blog and have been watching the training videos! I can assure you I'm going to get some guidance from watching them. I'm going to attempt to train my own. She's right at four months and we're beginning "what I perceive" is going to be a very hard, exciting, and difficult journey!! I don't have any questions for you currently. I'm going to finish watching the training vids you have with Tuvuk! Sure wish you didn't live in Alaska! haha I know your vids will give me some help! I'll be in touch! Take care!! ~Cody
